Probiotics are critical to your health! But how much do you need and which one?

I will start by saying this:
PROBIOTICS ARE A HUGE DEAL!

I believe that EVERYONE should take probiotics, even babies, and eat as much fermented food as possible! Because of our modern lifestyle and commercial industry we have lost much access to the natural probiotics that used to be readily available in our foods.

I also highly suggest that everyone undergo a live blood analysis (see this explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_blood_analysis) AND a nutritional blood/urine test (we do Genova NutrEval with our alternative doc; it's about $2,000 and our insurance company pays all but our copay of $169). Both of these tests will help determine the particular individual's needs for probiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamins/minerals, amino acids, neurotransmitters, and a ton more critical life-saving info. I recently got my results and tested amazingly high! No vitamin or mineral deficiencies whatsoever in spite of my IBS! That's unheardof for someone with IBS bcs it causes vitamin/mineral absorption problems. I know beyond any doubt that if not for my daily consumption of eXfuze Seven+ for the past 4+ yrs there is no way on the planet that I would test that way. It's absorbed at the cellular level so it helps me in spite of my stomach issues. My health-conscious friends that are consistent Seven+ users also test really well on their nutrition tests, so I'm not an isolated case. Of course I also do NOT take any prescription drugs whatsoever and rarely eat bad food, both of which would cause the depletion of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Our ultimate goal should be to put in a lot of good stuff (especially concentrated superfoods) and keep out most if not all the bad stuff.

For basic probiotic needs, I recommend eating lots of fermented foods plus this awesome green superfood that contains about 3 billion+ probiotic units per serving and digestive enzymes:
http://yourbodygodstemple.blogspot.com/2011/03/incredible-organic-green-superfood.html

However, for people that are not in perfect health and/or don't eat enough fermented foods, I recommend taking more probiotics in addition to Vitamineral Green, especially if you have digestive issues like me (I have had lifelong IBS and almost died at age 1 from it). According to our Genova Nutreval tests I need at least 25 billion probiotic units daily, while my husband who has a fantastic digestive system only requires 10 billion. Most people are getting way less than that or none at all! I am so excited to have just discovered this one and plan to order it next: Garden of Life Raw Probiotics with 85 billion units (also contains pre-biotics, which are very important too). Garden of Life has a great line for various needs (women, men, kids, seniors, etc) and is available at discount on Vitacost.com (use this code to get $10 off your first order: http://www.vitacost.com/Referee?wlsrc=rsReferral&ReferralCode=90197996).

It's a really tricky thing to find just the right probiotic for our specific needs. Some people like me also need extra digestive enzymes in addition to probiotics. I like Garden of Life Raw Enzymes Women.

I can't stress enough what a big deal probiotics are to our health! They affect so many areas of our health. You may be experiencing unnecessary health issues and nutrient deficiencies just from not having them. You may even be eating a very healthy diet but not absorbing a lot of the nutrients from your food and/or supplements.

Raw Cashew Milk Recipe

By Jolinda Hackett, About.com Guide

Raw cashew milk, a raw food recipe

Many raw food recipes call for cashew milk or another "nut milk" such as raw almond milk. Raw cashew milk is also delicious on its own, with a breakfast cereal or spiced with a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg. If you'd like to try cashew milk as a non-dairy milk substitute, here's how to make a raw cashew milk, suitable for vegans and also those on a raw food diet.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup raw cashews
water
sweetener (raw maple syrup, agave nectar or honey), optional
dash sea salt, to taste

Preparation:

Cover raw cashews with water and allow to soak for at least one hour. Drain and rinse.
Place soaked cashews and 2 cups water into a blender or food processor and process until smooth, at least one full minute. Add a dash of raw sweetener, such as agave nectar, to taste.

You can use more or less water to vary the thickness of your raw cashew milk, depending on your personal preference, but in general, you want a 1:4 ratio of cashews to water.

You may also choose to strain your raw cashew milk, depending on personal preference.

Vegetarian Safflower Oil Mayonnaise (not vegan)

Note:
My hubby and oldest daughter love mayo and won't eat the vegan version, so this is the closest I could come to making a healthy version they would eat. Fortunately, this is delicious, easy, and they love it! I like it better than the Safflower Mayo I've been buying at Publix for $4.59, which contains extra ingredients we don't need. It only costs me me about $2.65 to make the same 12 oz jar of this. I save money by purchasing a 3-pak of Hollywood Safflower Oil for $15.91on amazon.com using the "subscribe n save" feature.
You can use organic yellow or stoneground mustard instead of brown if you like; I've used both. I prefer not to use olive oil for this recipe so I just use 1 1/2 cup safflower oil.

Vegetarian Safflower Oil Mayonnaise

By Devonviolet
Added May 06, 2010 | Recipe #423640

Devonviolet's Note:
I have been looking for a healthy "Mayo" recipe for a while now, and finally decided to try one, that I had found. It was a dismal failure. I think adding the mustard and lemon juice, at the beginning, may have caused the egg to curdle, and it never thickened. So, I tried mixing the egg and slowly drizzled oil mixture, first, and then the lemon, salt and mustard. Voila! Success! I used Brown Mustard with Horseradish, because that is what I had in the house. But, I think you could use Dijon or even yellow mustard, with excellent results. I mixed Olive Oil and Safflower Oil, because I had seen that Olive Oil, by it's self, it really strong. But, you can use any oil or combination of oils. I hope my recipe is what you are looking for, and that you enjoy it, as much as my hubby and I do.

Yummy Vegan Ranch Dressing Recipe

10 servings

Our vegan ranch dressing recipe satisfies the craving you get for something creamy. It is fine for weight loss as long as you use small portions.

Ingredients:

4 oz raw cashew pieces
1/8 oz minced garlic
1/2 oz pitted dates
2 oz fresh lemon juice
2 oz cider vinegar
6 oz water

2 tsp parsley flakes
1 1/2 tsp onion powder
3/4 tsp dill weed
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3/8 tsp salt
1/4 tsp basil

Directions:

In a blender, weigh cashew pieces, minced garlic, dates, fresh lemon juice, cider vinegar, and water.

Remove from scale and add parsley flakes, onion powder, dill weed, garlic powder, salt, and basil. Blend until smooth and refrigerate. Shake before using.

Comments: This raw ranch dressing is yummy on salads. Our original recipe used 1 oz of agave nectar to sweeten this dressing. One day, we tried adding a medjool date instead of the agave, and we loved it. The date added just a hint of sweetness, and the date fiber made the dressing thicker.

This dressing is also fantastic on steamed greens or other steamed vegetables. To cut down on fat and calories, use mainly our Balsamic Dressing Recipe and just drizzle a little Ranch Dressing on top of it.

Eggless Vegan Mayonnaise Recipe

Note:
Use almond milk instead of soy and use safflower for the oil. I think this is too thin for mayo so I added xanthan gum for thickening. If you are going to use the mayo to make ranch dressing then you don't need to thicken it as much. You can use a food processor instead of blender if you like.
Miriam

Ingredients:

3 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup soy milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp mustard
6 tbsp vegetable oil

Preparation:

Put all the ingredients except the oil in a blender. Blend on the lowest speed. Gradually - one drop at a time - add the oil until the mixture starts to thicken. Continue blending until thickened and smooth. Transfer to a jar and store in the refrigerator.

eXfuze GreenZilla Energy Drink – Review
Posted on February 22, 2012 by Jessica •

Energy drinks. Remember when there were no such things? In the last 10 years, the energy drink industry has gotten completely out of control. If you ever look in the coolers at a gas station or grocery store, you will see more brands than you can count, all touting their own special blends of “healthy” energy-boosting ingredients. However, there is nothing healthy about these drinks.

The Dangers of Energy Drinks

Energy drinks pose quite a health risk to those who consume them. The long-term effects of these rinks are unknown, but we do know that the high levels of caffeine found in these drinks pose serious health risks. Too much caffeine affects heart rate, blood pressure, and brain function, as well as inducing seizures, even leading to death. And that’s just the caffeine. What about the other common ingredients like Ginseng, Carnitine, Gingko Biloba, Taurine, Inositol, Guarana Seed, etc.? Most people assume that just because these are natural herbs and vitamins that no harm can come from consuming them. However, these are all ingredients that traditionally serve specific medicinal purposes and should not be consumed together, and certainly not in mass quantity. In addition, many of these energy drinks contain large amounts of sugar, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, and more, all of which are extremely detrimental to our bodies.

There are more and more studies being conducted in the U.S. on the safety of these drinks, however, for many people (sadly, many are teens and young adults), permanent damage may have already been done to the liver, kidneys, heart, brain, and cells. In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, there have already been a lot of studies done and they have found adverse reactions to energy drinks to include: “liver damage, kidney failure, respiratory disorders, agitation, confusion, seizures, psychotic conditions, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rhabdomyolysis, tachycardia, cardiac dysrhythmias, hypertension, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and death.” And these are just the physical side effects. What about the psychological effects of these dangerous drinks? Mood swings, depression, and other mental disorders have been attributed to energy drinks. While there needs to be more studies, I think the evidence is already very clear. These drinks harm those who drink them.

If you’re reading this post, then I probably don’t have to convince you that energy drinks are bad. But, maybe you have a loved one or a friend who is addicted to them and you would love to have an alternative option for them? Well, this post is for you!

Enter GreenZilla

You may remember my recent giveaway of the bottle of superfood supplement from eXfuze? Well, this is another product from that same company and my friend over there, Stephanie, sent me a couple bottles to have my hubby test out. I will state up front that I didn’t sample the GreenZilla. The bottles were gone before I had a chance

I know a lot of people who drink energy drinks regularly. My husband used to be one of them. I hated that he would drink that garbage, knowing all to well the potential damage that he was doing. However, it gave him the boost he felt he needed in the morning, so it was hard to make him stop.

GreenZilla is an all-natural, energy boosting drink that helps increase energy and alertness without chemicals and nasty stimulants. It’s completely safe and won’t damage the body like other energy drinks. All of the ingredients are whole foods based and there is nothing artificial. No jitters and no crash. Some of the ingredients include blue-green algea, D-ribose, and green tea.

If you know someone who is addicted to energy drinks, this might be the perfect substitute for them. My hubby said he felt gently energized when he would drink it. He said he felt more of a subtle clarity and increased energy throughout the morning than with regular energy drinks. He also didn’t notice a “crash” when the supplement wore off. It didn’t give him the “jolt” that he expected from an “energy drink”, but I think that would be hard to do without introducing chemicals and artificial ingredients.

It’s also nice that one tiny (BPA-free) bottle holds enough for three servings. They’re small enough to travel with on the plane, keep in your purse, or at your desk at work.

So, are you intrigued? Want to try one for yourself?

Study: Fukushima killed at least 14,000 people in the US, mostly babies, in weeks following disaster

Saturday, January 07, 2012 by: Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) For the very first time, a scientific study published in a peer-reviewed journal has come up with a solid estimate of the total number of US deaths caused by the Fukushima nuclear disaster in the weeks following it. Epidemiologist Joseph Mangano, MPH, MBA, and his colleagues say that, based on compiled data, at least 14,000 people in the US were killed during the 14 weeks following the Fukushima catastrophe -- and the majority of these deaths were in children under age one.

Published in the International Journal of Health Services, Mangano's study looked at both infant and adult death rates during the time when Fukushima occurred, as well as in previous months and years. During the 14 weeks prior to Fukushima, for instance, infant deaths had been declining by 8.37 percent, while in the weeks following the disaster they increased by 1.8 percent. Among adults, a 4.46 percent death rate was observed in the weeks after Fukushima, compared to 2.34 percent, which is about half that rate, a year prior.

"This study of Fukushima health hazards is the first to be published in a scientific journal," said Mangano. "It raises concerns, and strongly suggests that health studies continue, to understand the true impact of Fukushima in Japan and around the world. Findings are important to the current debate of whether to build new reactors, and how long to keep aging ones in operation."

During the first few months when the Fukushima disaster was unfolding, NaturalNews reported on radiation spikes in milk (http://www.naturalnews.com/032048_radiation_milk.html), rainwater (http://www.naturalnews.com/031871_radiation_rainwater.html), and the general food supply, both in the US and abroad. Though tangible harm in humans was not necessarily evident at that time, it now appears that this systemic poisoning translated into thousands of known deaths, and likely tens of thousands more cases of cancer and other illnesses.

"Based on our continuing research, the actual death count here may be as high as 18,000, with influenza and pneumonia, which were up five-fold in the period in question as a cause of death," added Mangano. "Deaths are seen across all ages, but we continue to find that infants are hardest hit because their tissues are rapidly multiplying, they have undeveloped immune systems, and the doses of radioisotopes are proportionally greater than for adults."

Merck vaccine scientist Dr. Maurice Hilleman admitted presence of SV40, AIDS and cancer viruses in vaccines

Thursday, September 15, 2011
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

(NaturalNews) One of the most prominent vaccine scientists in the history of the vaccine industry -- a Merck scientist -- made a recording where he openly admits that vaccines given to Americans were contaminated with leukemia and cancer viruses. In response, his colleagues (who are also recorded here) break out into laughter and seem to think it's hilarious. They then suggest that because these vaccines are first tested in Russia, they will help the U.S. win the Olympics because the Russian athletes will all be "loaded down with tumors." (Thus, they knew these vaccines caused cancer in humans.)

This isn't some conspiracy theory -- these are the words of a top Merck scientist who probably had no idea that his recording would be widely reviewed across the internet (which didn't even exist when he made this recording). He probably thought this would remain a secret forever. When asked why this didn't get out to the press, he replied "Obviously you don't go out, this is a scientific affair within the scientific community."

In other words, vaccine scientists cover for vaccine scientists. They keep all their dirty secrets within their own circle of silence and don't reveal the truth about the contamination of their vaccines.

You can hear this interview at:
http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=13EAAF22CDA367BB3C2F94D2CD90EF7B

Here is the full transcript. (Thanks are due to Dr. Len Horowitz for finding this recording and making it publicly available.)

Transcript of audio interview with Dr. Maurice Hilleman

Dr. Len Horowitz: Listen now to the voice of the worlds leading vaccine expert Dr Maurice Hilleman, Chief of the Merck Pharmaceutical Company's vaccine division relay this problem he was having with imported monkeys. He best explains the origin of AIDS, but what you are about to hear was cut from any public disclosures.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: and I think that vaccines have to be considered the bargain basement technology for the 20th century.

Narrator: 50 years ago when Maurice Hilleman was a high school student in Miles City Montana, he hoped he might qualify as a management trainee for the local JC Penney's store. Instead he went on to pioneer more breakthroughs in vaccine research and development than anyone in the history of American medicine. Among the discoveries he made at Merck, are vaccines for mumps, rubella and measles…

Dr Edward Shorter: Tell me how you found SV40 and the polio vaccine.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: Well, that was at Merck. Yeah, I came to Merck. And uh, I was going to develop vaccines. And we had wild viruses in those days. You remember the wild monkey kidney viruses and so forth? And I finally after 6 months gave up and said that you cannot develop vaccines with these damn monkeys, we're finished and if I can't do something I'm going to quit, I'm not going to try it. So I went down to see Bill Mann at the zoo in Washington DC and I told Bill Mann, I said "look, I got a problem and I don't know what the hell to do." Bill Mann is a real bright guy. I said that these lousy monkeys are picking it up while being stored in the airports in transit, loading, off loading. He said, very simply, you go ahead and get your monkeys out of West Africa and get the African Green, bring them into Madrid unload them there, there is no other traffic there for animals, fly them into Philadelphia and pick them up. Or fly them into New York and pick them up, right off the airplane. So we brought African Greens in and I didn't know we were importing the AIDS virus at the time.

Miscellaneous background voices:…(laughter)… it was you who introduced the AIDS virus into the country. Now we know! (laughter) This is the real story! (laughter) What Merck won't do to develop a vaccine! (laughter)

Dr Maurice Hilleman: So what he did, he brought in, I mean we brought in those monkeys, I only had those and this was the solution because those monkeys didn't have the wild viruses but we…

Dr Edward Shorter: Wait, why didn't the greens have the wild viruses since they came from Africa?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …because they weren't, they weren't, they weren't being infected in these group holding things with all the other 40 different viruses…

Dr Edward Shorter: but they had the ones that they brought from the jungle though...

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …yeah, they had those, but those were relatively few what you do you have a gang housing you're going to have an epidemic transmission of infection in a confined space. So anyway, the greens came in and now we have these and were taking our stocks to clean them up and god now I'm discovering new viruses. So, I said Judas Priest. Well I got an invitation from the Sister Kinney Foundation which was the opposing foundation when it was the live virus…

Dr Edward Shorter: Ah, right…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: Yeah, they had jumped on the Sabin's band wagon and they had asked me to come down and give a talk at the Sister Kinney Foundation meeting and I saw it was an international meeting and god, what am I going to talk about? I know what I'm going to do, I'm going to talk about the detection of non detectable viruses as a topic.

Dr Albert Sabin …there were those who didn't want a live virus vaccine… (unintelligible) …concentrated all its efforts on getting more and more people to use the killed virus vaccine, while they were supporting me for research on the live viruses.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: So now I got to have something (laughter), you know that going to attract attention. And gee, I thought that damn SV40, I mean that damn vaculating agent that we have, I'm just going to pick that particular one, that virus has got to be in vaccines, it's got to be in the Sabin's vaccines so I quick tested it (laughter) and sure enough it was in there.

Dr Edward Shorter: I'll be damned

Dr Maurice Hilleman: … And so now…

Dr Edward Shorter: …so you just took stocks of Sabin's vaccines off the shelf here at Merck…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …yeah, well it had been made, it was made at Merck…

Dr Edward Shorter: You were making it for Sabin at this point?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …Yeah, it was made before I came…

Dr Edward Shorter: yeah, but at this point Sabin is still just doing massive field trials…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …uh huh

Dr Edward Shorter: okay,

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …in Russia and so forth. So I go down and I talked about the detection of non detectable viruses and told Albert, I said listen Albert you know you and I are good friends but I'm going to go down there and you're going to get upset. I'm going to talk about the virus that it's in your vaccine. You're going to get rid of the virus, don't worry about it, you're going to get rid of it… but umm, so of course Albert was very upset...

Dr Edward Shorter: What did he say?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well he said basically, that this is just another obfuscation that's going to upset vaccines. I said well you know, you're absolutely right, but we have a new era here we have a new era of the detection and the important thing is to get rid of these viruses.

Dr Edward Shorter: Why would he call it an obfuscation if it was a virus that was contaminating the vaccine?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well there are 40 different viruses in these vaccines anyway that we were inactivating and uh,

Dr Edward Shorter: but you weren't inactivating his though…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …no that's right, but yellow fever vaccine had leukemia virus in it and you know this was in the days of very crude science. So anyway I went down and talked to him and said well, why are you concerned about it? Well I said "I'll tell you what, I have a feeling in my bones that this virus is different, I don't know why to tell you this but I …(unintelligible) …I just think this virus will have some long term effects." And he said what? And I said "cancer". (laughter) I said Albert, you probably think I'm nuts, but I just have that feeling. Well in the mean time we had taken this virus and put it into monkeys and into hamsters. So we had this meeting and that was sort of the topic of the day and the jokes that were going around was that "gee, we would win the Olympics because the Russians would all be loaded down with tumors." (laughter) This was where the vaccine was being tested, this was where… so, uhh, and it really destroyed the meeting and it was sort of the topic. Well anyway…

Dr Edward Shorter: Was this the physicians… (unintelligible) …meeting in New York?

Dr Maurice Hilleman …well no, this was at Sister Kinney…

Dr Edward Shorter: Sister Kinney, right…

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …and Del Becco (sp) got up and he foresaw problems with these kinds of agents.

Dr Edward Shorter: Why didn't this get out into the press?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …well, I guess it did I don't remember. We had no press release on it. Obviously you don't go out, this is a scientific affair within the scientific community…

Voice of news reporter: …an historic victory over a dread disease is dramatically unfolded at the U of Michigan. Here scientists usher in a new medical age with the monumental reports that prove that the Salk vaccine against crippling polio to be a sensational success. It's a day of triumph for 40 year old Dr. Jonas E Salk developer of the vaccine. He arrives here with Basil O'Connor the head of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis that financed the tests. Hundreds of reporters and scientists gathered from all over the nation gathered for the momentous announcement….

Dr Albert Sabin: …it was too much of a show, it was too much Hollywood. There was too much exaggeration and the impression in 1957 that was, no in 1954 that was given was that the problem had been solved , polio had been conquered.

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …but, anyway we knew it was in our seed stock from making vaccines. That virus you see, is one in 10,000 particles is not an activated… (unintelligible) …it was good science at the time because that was what you did. You didn't worry about these wild viruses.

Dr Edward Shorter: So you discovered, it wasn't being inactivated in the Salk vaccine?

Dr Maurice Hilleman: …Right. So then the next thing you know is, 3, 4 weeks after that we found that there were tumors popping up on these hamsters.

Dr. Len Horowitz: Despite AIDS and Leukemia suddenly becoming pandemic from "wild viruses" Hilleman said, this was "good science" at that time.

NaturalNews wishes to thank Dr. Len Horowitz for uncovering this interview from the national archives, and for getting it released so the public can learn the truth behind the deadly vaccine industry.

What is Canola oil? And why you should avoid it

Note:
I have never purchased canola oil bcs I always suspected there was something not quite natural about it. It is now officially on the GMO list. The article below explains why.
Miriam

What is Canola oil? And why you should avoid it

If you really know what is Canola oil, you will not blindly accept what mainstream nutritionists, doctors and health authorities say about Canola oil being "the best" oil.
The campaign to promote Canola oil has been so successful that even lowly educated supermarket salesgirls might tell you that Canola oil is "the best". When you ask them why, they shrug their shoulders.

So what is Canola oil?

According to the people who promote it, Canola oil is the "best" or "ideal" oil for human consumption. It is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (about 60%), which are believed to be good for health. It further contains significant amounts (about 10%) of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are also good for health.

Sounds convincing? Maybe. But you should ask yourself, is there such a thing as "the best" oil in the first place?

People are different. They are born differently, they live in different environment conditions, they face different health issues and so on. People also eat different foods. Some eat plenty of meat, others eat plenty of vegetables...

When you consider such differences, it becomes obvious that different people have different needs. So the idea that there is one "best" oil for everybody is a wrong idea to begin with. This is just marketing propaganda.

History of Canola oil

The most important thing to know about what is Canola oil is this - Canola oil is an artificially created, genetically modified food. In nature, that is no such thing as a "Canola plant" that produces "Canola oil".
A bit of history will help us better understand what is Canola oil. The word Canola was coined in 1978 to describe a new type of oil that was developed from genetic manipulation of rapeseed. This new oil was first developed in Canada and the name Canola actually comes from the term, Canadian oil, low acid

The more interesting part of the history of Canola oil is why such an oil was developed in the first place. By the late 1970s, the oil industry in North America realised it had a problem. It had been promoting polyunsaturated fats (like corn oil and soybean oil) for many years, but more and more scientific evidence was emerging that these polyunsaturated fats caused an increase in cancer.

The focus turned to monounsaturated fatty acids, which have been widely recognised to be healthy. The obvious thing to do was to promote olive oil, which has been shown to be healthy. But... there was not enough olive oil for it to be used widely. And olive oil is costly, especially for commercial products like margarine, biscuits, salad dressings, etc.
Meanwhile, two Canadian plant breeders had using a genetic manipulation technique involving seed splitting come up with a new hybrid of the rapeseed plant. Rapeseed oil contains about 60 percent monounsaturated fatty acids. It had been traditionally used for cooking in Asia (in China, India and Japan) but it contains high levels of a toxic substance called Erucic acid.

The new hybrid of rapeseed has low levels of Erucic Acid. It was originally called LEAR, which stands for Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed. However, neither the name Rape (which came from the Latin word, Rapum, meaning "turnip") nor Lear were suitable for marketing. From a marketing standpoint, the new name, Canola, was great!

So now you know what is Canola oil... It is not only an artificially created food, it was created by the genetic manipulation of a toxic oil!

What is Canola oil - another interesting bit of history
In the 1980s, Canola oil began to be marketed in the United States. For that to happen, it has to be granted GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status by the US Food and Drug Administration.

GRAS status is typically awarded to foods and herbal products that have been traditionally used, for hundreds or even thousands of years, without known adverse effects.

Canada oil was a new product without any track record. And it was developed from a product known to have toxic effects. So how did it obtain GRAS status? No one knows for sure, but it has been rumoured that the Canadian government spent US$50 million to get it approved.

In the 1980s, Canola oil began to be marketed in the US. By the early 1990s, the name Canola became widely known worldwide. The Canola oil propagnda has become one of the most successful international marketing campaigns of all time.

This was done, firstly, by avoiding the question of what is Canola oil as well as the history of its development. Secondly, the campaign was not waged through regular consumer advertising. A conscious effort was made to target health professionals like nutritionists and doctors, as well as health-conscious comsumers. And so Canola oil was promoted mainly through scientific papers and conferences, as well as through health books.

One such book was written by Dr. Artemis Simopoulos, a researcher who did piioneering work on the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids. In 1998, Dr. Artemis Simopoulos published The Omega Plan and in 1999, the book was re-issued as The Omega Diet. In her book, Dr. Artemis Simopoulos discussed the benefits of monounsaturated fatty acids and Omega 3 fatty acids, and many of her recipes mentioned Canola Oil.

We have a wealth of evidence showing that populations that consume good quality olive oil as a primary dietary fat have significantly lower rates of both heart disease and cancer than those that don't. We have no comparable epidemiological data for Canola.
Also unlike extra-virgin olive oil, Canola oil doesn't contain the anti-oxidant polyphenols that are protective against heart disease and cancer.

– Dr Andrew Weil

Many other cookbooks that appeared after the 1990s also mentioned "Olive oil or Canola oil" in their recipes. Canola oil also began to be endorsed by prominent health writers like Dr Barry Sears, author of The Zone Diet and Dr Andrew Weil, who has written more than 10 books on natural health and integrative medicine - and who has twiced appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, in 1997 and 2005.
I used to hold Dr Andrew Weil in high regard and had bought several of his books when I first got interested in the subject of natural health. But his endorsement of Canola oil tells me that he, too, is limited in his understanding about what is Canola oil.

Interestingly, Dr Andrew Weil has since moderated his stance on Canola oil. In reply to a question on whether he recommends Canola oil as an alternative to Olive oil, Dr Andrew Weil wrote on his website that he now considers Canola oil to be "a distant runner-up to Olive oil". He added that he now takes Canola oil only "in moderation".

So now we have another definition of what is Canola oil - it is "a distant runner-up to olive oil"! Actually, it is highly misteading to compare Canola oil with olive oil, because the two are completely different.

For one thing, olive oil is not known to have any harmful health effects. But as I reseached further the question of what is Canola oil, I discovered that Canola oil does come with some serious health issues. Among other things, it was found in animal experiments to retard the growth of young animals. For this reason, Canola oil is not allowed to be used in infant formula.

Another issue is that while Canola oil has a high content of beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids, that Omega-3 turns rancid easily. It is also easily converted into trans fats. So Canola oil is actually quite different from olive oil. It just so happens that both are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, but that is all. Mentioning the two types of oil in the same breath is just part of the marketing ploy,

Physician Prescribes Coconut Oil And Successfully Cures Alzheimer's Disease

Note:
AMAZING! YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS! I love it and cook everything in it, and I even put it on my skin! You can see a great news video of this by clicking the link at the bottom of this post.

Physician Prescribes Coconut Oil And Successfully Cures Alzheimer's Disease

What if there was an actual cure for diseases such as alzheimer's disease, parkinson's, ALS, epilepsy, dementia, schizophrenia, and even autism? What if that cure was not a drug and available at many health food and even grocery retailers? What if you could be incorporating something into your diet right now that is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, helps with weight-loss and is one of the richest sources of healthy sources of fat?

I know it sounds to good to be true but coconut oil can do all these things. It's natural, widely available and thankfully not a patented. Coconut oil is one of the healthiest cooking and edible oils in the world. It is extracted from the kernel of matured coconuts in typically tropical regions. Throughout the tropics, it has provided the primary source of fat in the diets of millions of people for generations. It has always had various applications in food, medicine, and industry.

In the video above, Dr. Mary Newport speaks out on her incredible initiative to prescribe coconut oil to her husband, Steve Newport for his Alzheimer's disease.

"He had an MRI in May 2008 showing a diffuse involutional change of the frontal and parietal lobes and moderate left-sided and severe right-sided amygdala and hippocampal atrophy with no ischemic change, which would support a clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease," Dr. Newport stated.

Dr. Mary T. Newport M.D. and her husband Steve Newport.

Dr. Newport, a physician who runs a neonatology ward in a Florida hospital, became determined to help her husband after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The report hosted on CBN.com stated that "insulin problems prevent brain cells from accepting glucose, their primary fuel...there is an alternative fuel, ketones which the cells easily accept. Ketones are metabolized in the liver after you eat medium chain triglycerides which are found in coconut oil."

After incorporating coconut oil into his diet, Steve Newport began passing specific clock tests designed to help diagnose Alzheimer's patients. He began improving intellectually, emotionally and physically.

Dr. Newport documented Steve's success in a book called Alzheimer's Disease - What If There Was a Cure? She received dozens of thank you letters from other people whose loved one's Alzheimer's was helped after they followed Steve's diet.

Coconut oil has always received a crticism because a group of scientists had incorrectly promoted that it increased LDL cholesterol, also known to promote health problems and cardiovascular disease. However, it never did increase LDL cholesterol, but it did increase HDL or good cholesterol. That distinction was never corrected in the mainstream press and the misconception still continues to this day.

"Why the mainstream persists in this delusion of criticising coconut oil is beyond the understanding of many in the natural food industry," said raw food expert and retailer Ian Macdonald.

"You know you're on to something healthy when national and international health agencies are advising AGAINST it," Macdonald stated. "This is typically due to influences from pharmaceutical and high profile corporations who strive on keeping the population sick and diseased," he added.

For example the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), World Health Organization (WHO), International College of Nutrition, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, American Dietetic Association (ADA), American Heart Association (AHA), British National Health Service (NHS), and Dietitians of Canada all simultaenously recommend AGAINST the consumption of coconut oil. Unfortunately, and against the better interest of the public, none of the above organizations have a track record of recommending healthy solutions for the public, so Macdonald suggests that when these organizations recommend against something, "that is your cue to incorporate it into your diet, with proper research of course." Coconut oil may be the perfect example.

The way coconut oil benefits the brain and body can be of benefit to may conditions. Dr. Newport stated:

"Until very recently, I didn't see anything regarding the potential use of medium chain triglycerides (MCT oil), or ketone bodies (also called ketoacids,) the end product of their metabolism, which may not only treat, but also prevent Alzheimer's disease. Further, this is a potential treatment for Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), drug resistant epilepsy, brittle type I diabetes, and diabetes type II, where there is insulin resistance. Ketone bodies may help the brain recover after a loss of oxygen in newborns through adults, may help the heart recover after an acute attack, and may shrink cancerous tumors. Children with drug resistant epilepsy sometimes respond to an extremely low carbohydrate ketogenic diet. MCT oil appears to be useful as an aid in weight loss and body builders use it already to improve their lean body mass (MCT oil can be easily purchased on the internet.) Athletes and soldiers could use MCT oil as a source of fuel when the body runs out of carbohydrates, which occurs rather quickly when food is not readily available."

Coconut oil is very heat-stable, having one of the highest smoking points, which makes it suited to methods of cooking at high temperatures like frying. Because of its stability, it is slow to oxidize and, thus, resistant to rancidity, lasting up to two years due to high saturated fat content.

Multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60% of their total caloric intact from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease.

50 percent of the fat content in coconut oil is a fat rarely found in nature called lauric acid. Your body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-protozoa properties. Lauric acid is a powerful virus and gram-negative bacteria destroyer, and coconut oil contains the most lauric acid of any substance on earth!

Coconut oil is exceptionally helpful for pregnant women, nursing moms, the elderly, those concerned about digestive health, athletes (even weekend warriors), and those of you who just want to enhance your overall health.

Nigel Turner and Jiming Ye from Sydney's Garvan Institute of Medical Research compared fat metabolism and insulin resistance in mice fed coconut oil and lard based diets.

"The medium chain fatty acids like those found in coconut oil are interesting to us because they behave very differently to the fats normally found in our diets," said study leader Turner.

"Unlike the long chain fatty acids contained in animal fats, medium chain fatty acids are small enough to enter mitochondria - the cells' energy burning powerhouses - directly where they can then be converted to energy."

eXfuze Seven+ PROformance – A Superfood Multivitamin – Review and Giveaway
Posted on January 31, 2012 by Jessica

Some of you already know this about me, but I don’t really take supplements. I don’t take a multivitamin and the supplements that I do take are all food-based. I believe our nourishment should come from our food and not from a pill. That said, I do understand that there are times when supplements are needed and I’m not against taking them. I just prefer to get the nutrients I need from food first, supplements second. Many vitamins you buy in the store are either synthetic or do not come in the neat little package that nature intended, leaving them hard to utilize by your body.

There are a couple of food-based supplements that I take daily. The first is my fermented cod liver oil from Green Pasture. This is a very high quality product and I highly recommend you check it out. The second is an antioxidant omega-3 greens blend from Tropical Traditions. I know that as hard as I try, there are many days where I simply can’t eat enough veggies, especially in the winter when my local farmers markets are closed, so this product helps me make up a little of what I’m not getting.

But now, I think I may have found another food-based supplement to add to my regime. It’s called Seven+ PROformance and it’s made by eXfuze. Recently, Stephanie from eXfuze sent me a bottle of this supplement to try and review and I’m very excited to share information about this product and its benefits in this post. In addition, you have a chance to win a bottle for yourself and take advantage of a special deal for my readers!

eXfuze Seven+ PROformance

This juice blend combines seven of the world’s most powerful superfoods (Noni, Gac, Goji, Acai, Mangosteen, Seabuckthorn, and Fucoidan) to help deliver a powerful antioxidant punch to our cells. Other ingredients include pomegranate, wild blueberries, and aloe vera.

Most of us have probably never heard of many of those ingredients, so here’s a quick overview about each of the superfoods and what they do inside the body. Click here to view a larger version of the nutrition label.

Acai grows in Brazil and is packed with large amounts of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E, as well as 16 antioxidants, photo-nutrients, and a near perfect amino acid complex. It supports immune function, promotes cardiovascular health, removes free radicals, and helps cell growth, better sleep quality, as well as providing vital brain nutrients and all around improved health.*

Fucoidan is a glyco-nutrient extracted from brown seaweed. This complex polysaccharide has been studied in over 766 clinical studies to date. Interestingly, it has a nutritional breakdown which closely resembles the nutrients in breast milk. A few of its benefits are helping with body detoxification, anti-inflammatory capabilities, immune system support and significant biological effects on mammalian cells*.

Goji berries are found in Tibet and Mongolia. It is possibly one of the greatest natural answers to anti-aging. Some of the world’s oldest people live in the Himylain mountains and credit their advanced age and health to a steady diet of Goji. The berries contains 19 Amino Acids, Beta Carotene, and 21 Trace Minerals, as well as Vitamins B, C & Complex E.

Seabuckthorn is found in the mountainous regions of China and Russia. It has long been called called “Nature’s Multi-Vitamin”. Its nutritional breakdown includes Vitamins C, K & E, Folic Acid, Carotenoids, and Omega Complexes 3, 6, 7 and 9. It also has high antioxidant levels and beneficial flavenoids. Seabuckthorn is known to have the following benefits: anti-aging, supports immune function, promotes cardiovascular health, anti-inflammatory, promotes healthy skin, improves all around health.*

GAC is a fruit found in South East Asia. GAC seeds have been used for thousands of years for a variety of internal and external medicinal purposes. It has 70 times more Lycopene than tomatoes and 10 times more Beta-Carotene than carrots. Studies have shown GAC helps provide vascular and cellular rejuvenation, promotes anti-aging and immune system support.*

Noni fruit is found in India, Malaysia, Southeast Asia and some Pacific Islands. It has been used for many centuries as a medicine in Hawaiian and Asian cultures. It is widely used by naturopathic and homeopathic practitioners. Noni’s nutrients include Beta-carotene, Calcium, all B Vitamins, Vitamin C, and trace minerals. It has been shown to have the following benefits: helps increases absorption, assimilation and utilization of vitamins, herbs and minerals, stimulates the immune system, regulates cell function and promotes healthy cell regeneration, and strong anti-inflammatory capabilities.*

Mangosteen is a fruit found in many tropical countries around the world. The Mangosteen fruit has a hard outer shell which is valued because of its rich concentrate of Xanthones. Xanthones have been shown to have benefits for cardiovascular health, hypertension and thrombosis. eXfuze powders and extracts the entire fruit as most of the nutrients are in the hard outer shell which are not easily available via typical concentration methods. It has a nutritional breakdown that includes antioxidants, fiber, potassium, calcium, Vitamins B1 & B2, Iron, Vitamin C and Vitamin B6, and it is loaded with Xanthones. It is known to have the following benefits: Anti-aging, anti-allergy, anti-fungal strengthening the immune system helping it to fight infections, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-microbial and pain inhibiting.*

Both my husband and I tried the Seven+ PRO and were quite pleased. We both noticed a boost of energy after taking it, but it wasn’t like we crashed later. It’s just the little boost you need to get going in the morning. It’s sweet and tangy, but not overpowering and has less than two grams of sugar per serving. I typically don’t like fruit juices, so I was skeptical, but this was quite pleasant. The blend tastes delicious and it is a perfect way to disguise our fermented cod liver oil (shhhhh…hubby doesn’t know I’ve been doing that to him. Hopefully he doesn’t read this post!). Also, we have both been able to avoid the colds that have been wandering around both of our offices, so I’m pretty sure it’s working!
